In a time when Test cricket is quickly falling out of favour with the modern audience and players, veteran fast bowler Hasan Ali has reaffirmed his commitment to the longest format of the game.
In an interview with veteran journalist Saleem Khaliq, Hasan Ali said that no matter what happens in his white-ball career, he has no plans to walk away from Test cricket, which is the format he says he truly loves.
“Test cricket is my love. Even if the time comes to retire from T20s and ODIs, I won’t even think about quitting Test cricket as long as I’m fit,” Hasan Ali said.
The 31-year-old, who has represented Pakistan in all three formats since 2016, believes that Test matches bring out the best in a cricketer. His role has been limited to white-ball cricket in recent years, suggesting that the PCB may have other plans for him, but the pacer isn’t willing to give up on his Test career yet.
“My job is to perform,” he added. “Whether or not I get selected in the team is the decision of the PCB, the captain, and the team management.”
Hasan Ali has played 24 Test matches in his career so far, with his last outing in whites coming in January 2024. While he hasn’t been part of the Pakistan Test team since then, he has been a regular fixture in England’s county scene, churning out impressive performances to keep his name in the headlines.
Despite limited chances in Pakistan’s spin-heavy lineup in recent times, Hasan remains hopeful that his chance will come.
With Pakistan’s next Test assignment coming in October, Hasan Ali’s passion for the format might be the missing piece that puts Pakistan’s Test team on the path to long-lost glory.
