Karachi Residents Can Now Register Vehicles on Weekends

Sindh’s Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Minister, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, has confirmed that the Motor Registration Wing at Karachi’s Civic Centre will now remain open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The weekend extension covers key services including the transfer of motorcycle ownership, issuance of number plates for cars and motorcycles, and the processing of registration fees and payments. The move responds directly to growing public demand for these services and aims to alleviate the crowding typically seen on weekdays.

DG Excise and Taxation Sindh, Iqbal Ahmed Laghari, stated that the new schedule is intended to streamline operations at the Civic Centre and better meet citizens’ needs. The extended hours should alleviate pressure on facilities and improve service delivery.

This announcement follows recent public frustration over the rollout of Sindh’s new “Ajrak” number plates. Reports indicate long queues, production delays, and heightened enforcement, leading to over 12,000 vehicle seizures in Karachi alone due to non-compliance. Citizens have criticized the pricing and delays involved in the plate replacement drive.
