Pakistani Airport Wins International Award

Quetta International Airport’s newly reconstructed runway was honoured with the prestigious FIDIC Asia-Pacific Engineering Excellence Award during a ceremony in Islamabad.

Officials say the runway—completed without closing the airport and at a cost of around PKR 5 billion—now ranks among the region’s longest and strongest rigid-runways.

The award recognizes the Pakistan Airports Authority and project consultancy teams for their exemplary planning, technical skill, and safety record.

The runway saw its first landing by PIA Flight PK‑3250 from Islamabad on 31 May 2023.

  • This news is smelly and seems to be wet.
Why Quetta, leaving all other important airports in country ?

    • Kindly read the news again but with eyes wide open this time.

It says “Newly Reconstructed Runway was honoured with the prestigious FIDIC Asia-Pacific Engineering Excellence Award”

Have you seen any reconstruction or even new construction of airports anywhere else in Pakistan…

    • Because it is on the western border. Anything on the Eastern border will be bombed out by Indian Air force. So now you will have a safe airport for your exports which brings in useful foreign exchange earnings.

  • Ahhh yes . Engineering excellence when it was only just made . No proof of what engineering feat

    Seriously

  • I have served Civil Aviation Authority (now Pakistan Airports Authority) for 31 years and retired as Director Airport Services last year. I myself visited the runway of Quetta Int’l Airport in 2023 and found it a remarkable construction project. Winning an international award is really an honour for the said Airport and Pakistan Airports Authority. I wish both great achievements ahead!

    • Thank you 0for your positive information , otherwise I was in doubt after reading sarcastic remarks shared by others

    • Hi Zohair! Are you a retired man when we need experienced technical staff for airports better governance?
Try to resume and do not let today’s no knew take high salaries with zero work and bully with experienced co workers and engage relatives or somebody obliging truly theirs …Rs. 5 bn with runway construction is good for award for one year or too much for contractor for onwards projects….

  • Please do not cut jokes in journalism. There is no construction in this country that can deserve any award Now do not say that the newly constructed roads and underpasses in Islamabad are an engineering feat. These fell apart just last week.

  • A good news for Pakistanis, especially from Queeta Balochistan. Hope in upcoming years Balochistan will develop more thsn other cities of Pakistan and will win PEACE FULL place award also. PAKISTAN ZINDABAD.

  • Increase in Runway and LCN may permit wider body aircrafts to land at Smagli – Quetta airport. Which is a good facility but local Govt. has to improve safety and law& order situation in Baluchistan. Frustrated Baluch and puktoon to be given more chance to take part in Baluchitan’s development.
