The federal government has decided to begin construction on two major road projects in the capital next month. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters.
According to officials, the groundbreaking of the T Chowk Flyover and Shaheen Chowk Underpass will take place in the first week of September.
The CDA recently invited bids for the Rs. 1.4 billion T Chowk project, which will be built at the busy intersection of GT Road and Islamabad Expressway. The project is aimed at easing traffic flow for vehicles entering and leaving the capital.
Meanwhile, the Shaheen Chowk underpass, estimated to cost Rs. 1.3 billion, will address long-standing congestion at the junction of Ninth Avenue and Khayaban-i-Iqbal/Margalla Road.
The location is one of the city’s busiest stretches due to the presence of government offices and educational institutions. Under the plan, traffic on Khayaban-i-Iqbal will pass underground, while the top slab of the underpass will connect Ninth Avenue with the adjacent service road.
