Hosts UAE Confirm Squad Ahead of Asia Cup Showdown

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) have unveiled their 17‑member squad for the Asia Cup 2025, with hard‑hitting opener Muhammad Waseem set to captain the side on home soil.

The squad largely mirrors the one currently competing in the ongoing tri‑nation series against Afghanistan and Pakistan, with two fresh inclusions: pacer Matiullah Khan and left‑arm spinner Simranjeet Singh.

With the UAE announcing their roster, all eight teams have now confirmed their squads.

Placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, India, and Oman, the UAE face a tough challenge from the outset. Their campaign begins with a blockbuster clash against India in Dubai on September 10.

The hosts will be hoping for a much improved showing at the Asia Cup after struggling to find rhythm in the ongoing tri‑series. The UAE have lost both of their matches so far and face the prospect of early elimination with a defeat to Pakistan tonight.

The UAE last featured in the Asia Cup in 2016, when the event was held in Bangladesh. This time, as hosts, they will look to spring a surprise in a tournament that has drawn the best from across the continent.

The Asia Cup 2025 features eight teams split into two groups of four. The top two from each pool advance to the Super Four stage, with the finalists battling for the trophy in Dubai.

Home turf, fresh faces, and a heavyweight opening night, UAE’s script is set. If Waseem’s men can flip their tri‑series form, Group A of the Asia Cup might not be as dull as many are predicting.
