Sindh Imposes Hefty Fines for Traffic Violations Under New Rules

The Sindh government has introduced a sweeping set of traffic penalties aimed at curbing reckless behavior on the roads, with fines reaching as high as Rs. 100,000 for the most serious violations. The revised rules, notified this week, cover speeding, reckless driving, underage drivers, one-wheeling, drunken driving, and other dangerous practices.

Under the new framework, exceeding the prescribed speed limit will cost motorcyclists Rs. 5,000, while car and jeep drivers will face Rs. 10,000. The penalty increases to Rs. 15,000 for public service and light transport vehicles and Rs. 20,000 for heavy transport vehicles.

Driving without a valid license has also been addressed with strict fines: Rs. 20,000 for car drivers, Rs. 25,000 for public service and light transport drivers, and Rs. 30,000 for heavy transport operators.

Reckless or negligent driving now carries a penalty of Rs. 25,000 for cars and jeeps and Rs. 50,000 for both public service and heavy transport vehicles. Similarly, driving in the wrong direction on a one-way street will draw a fine of Rs. 25,000 for motorcyclists, Rs30,000 for cars, Rs. 50,000 for public service vehicles, and Rs. 100,000 for heavy vehicles.

Driving on the wrong side of the road is punishable by Rs. 5,000 for motorcycles, Rs. 10,000 for cars, Rs. 15,000 for public service vehicles, and Rs. 20,000 for heavy vehicles.

Furthermore, the government has also introduced stringent new penalties for parking violations across the province. Among the highlighted violations, parking more than 0.5 meters from the curb or on a sidewalk will incur a fine of Rs. 2,000 for motorcycles and Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 for other vehicle types, with a 2-point demerit.

Similarly, parking less than 5 meters from another vehicle, on a zebra crossing, or within 3 meters of a hydrant, stop sign, or intersection will attract the same penalties.
