The Punjab government has announced a Rs. 15,000 salary increase for Civil Defense employees.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Provincial Information Minister Uzma Bukhari said that if the Punjab government had not acted in time, the recent floods could have caused large-scale destruction.
She added that whenever the Punjab government works for the people, some individuals become uncomfortable. “Some people ask where the 90,000 houses are, but in Punjab, houses and solar programs are not for sale,” she remarked.
Uzma Bukhari said that difficult times in Punjab are often used for political point-scoring, adding that “those who cannot do anything themselves only know how to talk.”
The minister further announced that relief cheques for flood victims will be distributed from October 17, and said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was deeply disappointed by the attitude of certain political figures.
