Punjab Mills Begin Crushing As Sugar Prices Expected To Drop

All 41 sugar mills in Punjab have now begun the crushing season, a move that could lead to lower prices.

The market is expecting a possible reduction of up to Rs. 10 per kilo in sugar prices, according to officials in the Cane Commissioner’s office.

Sources said the arrival of new sugar supplies is expected to stabilize the market, where rates have recently touched Rs. 230 per kilo in some cities.

They added that timely monitoring by district administrations will be crucial, especially after several mills used delaying tactics despite repeated government directives.

Officials noted that with crushing now underway, the chances of black market sales and artificial shortages will decrease.

Earlier, the provincial government imposed fines on mills that ignored the official start date for the season.
