Pakistan Railways has announced significant reductions in saloon fares on the instructions of Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi. The ministry said the revised prices aim to make saloon travel more affordable for passengers across major routes.
According to the new structure, the Karachi to Rawalpindi fare has been reduced from Rs. 500,000 to Rs. 172,000. The Karachi to Lahore fare has dropped from Rs. 420,000 to Rs. 150,000. Similarly, the Lahore to Rawalpindi fare has been cut from Rs. 105,000 to Rs. 44,000.
Officials said the decision reflects the minister’s efforts to bring down travel costs and improve access to premium rail services. They added that Pakistan Railways will continue reviewing its fare structure to ensure affordability and better service delivery.
Earlier, Minister Abbasi chaired a key meeting to review the performance of the railway police. During the session, officials briefed him that the ticket-checking campaign had become more effective in recent weeks following his directions.
The minister warned that both passengers traveling without tickets and anyone facilitating them will face strict legal action. He said those caught without a valid ticket will face imprisonment and emphasized that enforcement against ticketless travel must continue without exception.
