WAPDA Involved in Another Fight at National Games

Another ugly scene unfolded at the 35th National Games when the hockey semifinal between WAPDA and Navy ended in chaos.

Navy secured a narrow 3–2 victory, but post-match celebrations quickly turned into a heated exchange, followed by a scuffle between players from both teams. The disturbance overshadowed what had otherwise been a closely contested semifinal.

Players from both teams confronted each other after the final whistle, with pushing and shoving quickly escalating into a physical scuffle involving several participants. The situation can be seen as intensifying rapidly rather than being calmed or brought under control by match officials.

This incident is the third case of on-field violence at the ongoing National Games. Earlier, similar fights were reported in girls’ netball and men’s football matches, raising growing concerns about discipline, player conduct, and overall event management.

The repeated incidents have cast a shadow over the tournament, with critics stressing that sporting events should reflect skill, professionalism, and sportsmanship rather than scenes of disorder and violence.

The 35th National Games are currently underway in Karachi, having officially kicked off on December 6. The week-long multi-sport event will run until December 13, featuring 32 different disciplines spread across more than 20 venues in the city.
