The Federal Board of Revenue Customs at the Air Cargo Control Unit (ACCU), Collectorate of Customs Airports Karachi, has foiled an attempt to smuggle marijuana into Pakistan through the International Mail Office, officials said.
The key development is that around 1.03 kilograms of marijuana, with an estimated value of Rs. 30.716 million, was recovered from a parcel originating from the United States and falsely declared as containing books.
According to customs officials, the suspicious consignment was intercepted during routine profiling and examination at the International Mail Office (IMO), Karachi, where the concealed contraband was detected and seized.
Authorities said the seizure highlights Pakistan Customs’ continued vigilance against smuggling through all channels, including international mail services, which are increasingly being misused for illicit trade.
Officials added that legal proceedings have been initiated under relevant laws, while investigations are underway to identify those involved in the attempted smuggling.
The FBR reiterated its commitment to curbing smuggling, corrupt practices and illicit trade, saying such enforcement actions are essential to protect public safety, safeguard national revenue, and support the broader economy.
