Punjab Govt Considers Basant Celebrations in More Cities

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said the provincial government plans to extend Basant celebrations to other cities after what she termed a safe and successful festival in Lahore.

In her statement, the chief minister expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the Basant Gala, noting that families and children celebrated the event responsibly and in line with approved safety measures.

She said citizens followed standard operating procedures, including restrictions on kite size and paper quality, and fully complied with the ban on hazardous strings.

Maryam Nawaz said authorities received no reports of prohibited metallic or chemical-coated kite strings, adding that this compliance also helped protect electricity infrastructure across the city. She stated that rooftop kite flying took place under approved guidelines and that pre-planned safety arrangements proved effective.

The chief minister praised Lahore’s residents for maintaining discipline during the celebrations and said the success of the event reflected public trust and cooperation. She added that the concept of a “Safe Basant” would now be introduced in other cities across Punjab.
