Major Punjab District Orders Strict No Smoking Policy in Hospitals

Acting on instructions from the Deputy Commissioner, the Chief Executive Officer Health Faisalabad has ordered an immediate ban on smoking in all public and private hospitals across the district.

In a formal notification, the health authority directed hospital administrations to prohibit smoking in offices, sub offices, and all other premises within their facilities.

The order requires hospitals to install clear signboards announcing the smoking ban and to arrange proper staff training to ensure compliance. Administrations must also submit a detailed monthly report to the relevant department outlining enforcement measures.

Earlier in 2025, the Punjab government directed authorities to strictly implement the Prohibition of Smoking Ordinance 2002 throughout the province, including Rawalpindi. Under the policy, officials can impose fines of up to Rs. 100,000 for violations in public places.

Provincial guidelines ban smoking in educational institutions, government offices, hospitals, shopping malls, and public transport. Authorities may fine violators between Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 100,000 depending on the nature and severity of the offense.
