Apple has introduced a brand new model to its laptop lineup with the introduction of the MacBook Neo, its first-ever budget MacBook. It is a lower-end variant of the MacBook Air and Pro with a few compromises and a much lower price tag.
Display and Design
MacBook Neo features a 13-inch Liquid Retina IPS LCD with a resolution of 2,408 x 1,506 pixels, a 60Hz refresh rate, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. The display reaches up to 500 nits of peak brightness. It includes a 1080p FaceTime HD camera.
The laptop comes with Apple’s Magic Keyboard without backlighting. Touch ID is available only on the 512GB storage version. All models include the same multi-touch trackpad, which does not support Force Touch haptic feedback.
The chassis is made from 90% recycled aluminum and weighs 1.23 kg. Side-firing speakers support spatial audio and Dolby Atmos. A dual-microphone array with directional beamforming is also included. The laptop is available in Silver, Blush, Citrus, and Indigo colors.
Performance and Software
MacBook Neo runs on the A18 Pro chipset, which debuted in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max in 2024. It is paired with 8GB of unified memory and offers 256GB or 512GB of storage.
Apple states that the MacBook Neo delivers 50% faster web browsing performance and up to three times faster on-device AI performance compared to Windows laptops equipped with Intel’s Core Ultra 5 processor.
For connectivity, the laptop includes two USB-C ports. One supports USB 3 speeds and DisplayPort, while the other supports USB 2 speeds. A 3.5mm headphone jack is also present. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 6. The device runs macOS 26 Tahoe with Apple Intelligence.
Battery and Pricing
A 36.5 Wh lithium-ion battery powers the MacBook Neo. Apple rates it for up to 16 hours of video streaming or 11 hours of web browsing.
Pricing starts at $599 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage model. The 512GB version is priced at $699. Education pricing reduces the base model to $499.
