PCB Announces New Selection Committee

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced changes to its men’s national selection set-up, naming Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed as members of a newly reconstituted selection committee.

The updated panel, listed on the PCB’s official website, now includes four former internationals: Aqib Javed, Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq.

The reshuffle follows recent criticism of Pakistan’s performances, including a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign that triggered fresh scrutiny of selection decisions and internal processes.

Sarfaraz’s appointment comes as he continues to take on a growing role within the board’s structure. He has been working with the Pakistan Under-19 set-up and has also recently been appointed as head coach of the Pakistan Test team.

The latest changes were confirmed days after former international umpire Aleem Dar stepped down from the men’s national selection committee.

Dar’s resignation followed reports of frustration over how decisions were being shaped within the group, with discussions reportedly influenced heavily by head coach Mike Hesson and limited room for dissent.

Dar was appointed as a selector in October 2024 as part of an earlier revamp. However, sources indicated he felt sidelined in meetings and had reservations over key squad calls made around the T20 World Cup. He was also said to have pushed for wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan to be backed more decisively in the middle order.

Pakistan’s recent tournament run has intensified debate around selection strategy and accountability, with the team failing to meet expectations and prompting the PCB to revisit its decision-making framework.
