The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has announced another completion timeline for the long-delayed Karimabad underpass project, with authorities now expecting the project to be finished in April.
Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui said the underpass is expected to be completed two weeks after Eid-ul-Fitr. The project began on December 30, 2023, and was initially scheduled to be completed within one year.
The 1.2-kilometer underpass was originally estimated to cost Rs. 1.35 billion, but the cost has increased to Rs. 3.8 billion following delays. The project’s completion deadline had previously been extended several times, first to 18 months, then to mid-2025, and later to the end of 2025.
Siddiqui said the relocation of transmission lines belonging to K-Electric caused major delays in the project. He added that the transmission lines were removed last week, allowing the remaining work to proceed.
“Only 90 meters of roof installation is left, after which the road surface will be laid,” Siddiqui said, adding that the underpass is now expected to open in April.
