A young man abducted from one of Islamabad’s most expensive sectors in the middle of the night was later found killed in Swabi.
The victim was identified by his family as Farrukh Afzal, aged around 30 to 31. According to the FIR and the family’s account, he was taken from outside his home on Street 38 in F-6/1 shortly after midnight when armed men allegedly stormed the area and forced him into a vehicle.
The FIR, registered at Kohsar police station on the complaint of his father, states that the complainant came outside after hearing noise around 12am and saw four to five unidentified men abducting his son. When family members and neighbors tried to intervene, the suspects allegedly opened fire and fled with the victim.
Relatives said Farrukh had arrived home around 12:04 am and was getting out of his car when three to four men tried to kidnap him. They said his screams alerted neighbors and family members, but the assailants still managed to escape with him.
Police later said the body of the abducted man was recovered from Swabi and shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for post-mortem. According to police, the victim appeared to have been tortured.
The incident has triggered anger because the abduction took place in one of Islamabad’s most sensitive and heavily monitored areas, close to the Red Zone. The case has also put renewed focus on the effectiveness of Islamabad Police, checkpoints across the capital, and Safe City surveillance camera.
It is also worth noting that Islamabad is currently under heavy security with Punjab Police as well Army and Rangers deployed at various checkpoints across the federal capital.
The fact that armed men were allegedly able to abduct a man from F-6/1, open fire, and drive out of the capital without immediate interception has raised troubling questions about response failures and the practical value of the city’s surveillance and tracking systems.
Police said the main suspect and a woman accomplice have been arrested, while the vehicle used in the kidnapping has also been recovered. Authorities say the investigation is continuing from multiple angles and efforts are underway to trace the remaining suspects.
