Several cities across Pakistan experienced dangerous heat conditions on Wednesday, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reporting “feels like” temperatures approaching 60°C in some areas due to high temperatures and humidity.
According to PMD data recorded at 2:00 p.m., Peshawar recorded the highest feels like temperature of 59.9°C, despite an actual temperature of 42°C and relative humidity of 48 percent. Bhakkar followed at 56.7°C, while Sukkur recorded 55.8°C and Dera Ismail Khan reached 53.7°C.
Other cities also experienced severe heat. Sargodha and Faisalabad both recorded feels like temperatures of 50.2°C, while Bahawalpur reached 49.3°C. Lahore recorded a feels like temperature of 48.7°C, despite an actual temperature of 36°C, due to 61 percent humidity.
Multan recorded a feels like temperature of 46.3°C, followed by Islamabad at 46°C, Hyderabad at 45.9°C, Sialkot at 42.3°C, and Karachi at 39.3°C.
According to the PMD, feels like temperatures above 54°C fall under the “Extreme Danger” category, where heat stroke is considered imminent. Temperatures between 41°C and 54°C fall under the “Danger” category, with heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke likely during prolonged outdoor activity.
The weather department advised people to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, and take precautions against heat related illnesses.
