Education Ministers Announce Decision on Early Winter Vacations [Updated]

Update: The Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC), on Monday, failed to reach a decision regarding the early winter break.

The provincial education ministers briefed the forum on the coronavirus pandemic situation in their respective provinces. However, no final decision on holidays or school closures was made today. The IPEMC will meet again on Monday, November 23 at 11 am.

The Federal Minister for Education, Shafqat Mahmood, is chairing an important meeting of provincial education ministers at the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) in Islamabad. The meeting has been convened to discuss the latest coronavirus situation in the country.

The meeting will also consider the NCOC’s recommendation for an early and extended winter break across the country to keep students safe.

Ahead of the meeting, the Federal Education Minister said that the decision will be made keeping the health of students, teachers, and staff members in view.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Education Minister, Murad Raas, is against taking a winter break. He has previously expressed his thoughts on more than one occasion. He believes that the schools were re-opened after a lot of homework and effort. Closing down schools again will hamper the education mechanism.

  • Both matters are equally significant i.e health of the children and their education. Can’t favour one as I myself being a student want safe holidays but on the other hand the education and examination would be seriously disturbed.
