It has been a great year for the Pakistani music industry, with many of our renowned artists getting much-needed attention from the mainstream media and international platforms.
While Coke Studio Season 14 rolled out hit after hit this year, several popular and up-and-coming artists stepped up to deliver chart-topping hits.
Here are the top 10 most popular Pakistani songs of 2022.
10. Iraaday — Abdul Hannan and Rovalio
Abdul Hannan and Rovalio were the golden boys of 2022. They managed to shine bright in the era of Peechay Hutt and Coke Studio and their song Iraaday even managed to dethrone Pasoori on the listening charts in May.
The music video for the song has garnered over 15 million views on YouTube.
9. Chann Pichay — The Legend of Maula Jatt (OST)
Bilal Lashari is, without a doubt, a creative genius. The Legend of Maula Jatt (TLoMJ) is still running wild in cinema houses and the soundtrack album is yet to be released. However, TLoMJ‘s YouTube channel dropped this gem of a moment from the record-breaking film.
A simple yet elegant duet by Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan, with the chorus by the entire cast serves as a calm before the storm in the film.
8. Sukoon — Hassan & Roshaan ft. Shae Gill
Sukoon by Hassan & Roshaan with Coke Studio-famed Shae Gill is a song about finding peace in solitude. Although the ‘moral brigade’ did not see it that way, Sukoon touched people’s hearts with its soulful tunes within a month’s time and became one of the top Pakistani songs of 2022.
The peaceful turbulence of Roshaan Sherwani’s composition, combined with the siren-like vocals of Shae Gill, and the counterbalance of Hassan Sheikh’s serene voice evoke a range of emotions that lies at the intersection of peace, solitude, and longing.
7. Agay Dekh — Atif Aslam x Aima Baig x Abdullah Siddiqui
PSL 7’s official anthem Agay Dekh came out to mixed reactions, which is not surprising. Most of the haters were just Ali Zafar’s whiny fanboys.
Renowned artist Atif Aslam put his own spin on cricket with a banger of a song alongside the beautiful Aima Baig. People loved the song for its “uplifting and energetic” vibes, adding that the song has an experimental feel to its composition. Fans even praised the chemistry between Aima Baig and Atif Aslam.
6. Sohna Tu — Taha Malik ft. Aima Baig HYDR, Javed Bashir and Rozeo
This year’s music scene has also been the battle of the soda brands, with Pepsi giving Coca-Cola a run for its money. Pepsi gave us Young Stunners’ Why Not Meri Jaan last year and they followed it with a sequel track that had everyone on the internet dancing and swaying to the beat.
Sohna Tu is THE dance track of 2022 for Pakistan as Taha Malik and HYDR got everyone dancing with their infectious tune with songstress Aima Baig adding her scintillating vocals to the track.
5. Tu Jhoom — Naseebo Lal x Abida Parveen
Season 14 of Coke Studio kicked off with a bang. The song, Tu Jhoom, featuring Naseebo Lal and Abida Parveen became an instant hit among the hardcore fans of the show. In just a few days, the song had millions of views on YouTube.
Fans fell in love with the dream collaboration of two Pakistani legends, Naseebo Lal and Abida Parveen.
4. Habibi — Asim Azhar
This list of top Pakistani songs of 2022 wouldn’t be complete without ‘Pakistani Bieber’ Asim Azhar, and he did not disappoint this year. Habibi was another chart-topping hit for the young musician as its catchy beat and laidback vibe won fans over not only in Pakistan but across the border as well.
The song has over 11 million views on YouTube.
3. Kahani Suno 2.0 — Kaifi Khalil
Kaifi Khalil is a promising young music artist from Karachi, best known for bringing a twist to traditional Balochi music by combining it with modern music. He is arguably the best emerging artist of 2022.
The young artist took the world by storm earlier this year with his song Kahani Suno 2.0. Even though Aima Baig tried to steal the spotlight from him with her horrendous cover, the original song is still everyone’s favorite, with over 32 million views on YouTube.
2. Kana Yaari — Kaifi Khalil x Eva B x Abdul Wahab Bugti
Kaifi Khalil has Coke Studio and producer Xulfi to thank for his stardom. Coke Studio season 14 brought together Kaifi Khalil, hijabi rapper Eva B, and folksinger Abdul Wahab Bugti to perform the infectious track Kana Yaari, which became a global hit.
The song topped the charts worldwide, featured in numerous international playlists, and even caught the attention of the Norwegian dance group, Quick Style.
1. Pasoori — Ali Sethi x Shae Gill
This was a no-brainer. Pasoori was a global phenomenon that captured everyone’s attention. From Bollywood stars like Alia Bhatt fangirling over the song to Arijit Singh as well as an international violinist performing a cover of this Coke Studio track, Pasoori was everywhere!
Ali Sethi and Shae Gill’s soulful voices, along with the stunning production by Coke Studio, made Pasoori a global hit and the most Googled song of 2022, beating Butter by BTS. The song even topped the Spotify charts in Pakistan, India, and other countries.
