As the hype of Ranveer Singh’s Simba is dying out, the actor is already stealing the show with Gully Boy. Audiences are blown away by Ranveer’s rapping skills in the film’s teaser.
Although the teaser trailer of Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy had other things to offer, Ranveer took the spotlight.
Gully Boy is the tale of an underdog rapper who started from the bottom and made it big in the national Rap and Hip Hop scene. The teaser didn’t provide much insight into where the story will go but it was a treat of its own. The teaser was set with Asli Hip Hop in the backdrop a rap track by Ranveer himself.
The snippets of footage do reveal that in the film Ranveer’s character faces resistance from his family and society in the pursuit of passion.
In less than a minute and 30 seconds, we realize that the ‘gully boy’ from the film is a native of Dharavi in Mumbai.
Cast
Even though Ranveer already stole the show, the film has a number of other talented actors. Alia Bhatt, seen in pictures of the films first look has a key role in the story. French actress Kalki Koechlin seems to rival Alia’s character for Ranveer’s interest in the teaser. Vijay Raaz and Vijay Verma are among others in the cast.
Set in Dharavi, Gully Boy is loosely based on the lives of Mumbai rappers Divine and Naezy. Zoya Akhtar along with Reema Kagti wrote the script.
The film’s world premiere will be in February at the Berlin International Film Festival.
