Google is working on a mid-range smartphone which is based on Qualcomm’s brand new Snapdragon 710 platform which promises premium features at an affordable price. It is expected that this Snapdragon 710 based smartphone will launch in the first half of 2019, possibly during Google I/O 2019.
The device is codenamed “bonito”, which makes sense because Google tends to name its hardware projects after sea life. Bonitos are “a tribe of medium-sized, ray-finned predatory fish in the family Scombridae – a family it shares with the mackerel, tuna, and Spanish mackerel”. So, we can expect this Google’s device to be of mid-sized yet having a fast processor and improved specifications.
These are just the rumors, as the device is in the early stages of the development cycle, everything is still in flux. Even if this rumor is spot on, the project could still change or even shut down in the future.
