Our Opinion

Nokia 7 is a midrange smartphone with a premium design which is compact and suitable for one-handed usage.

The 7000 series aluminum build is light and the glass build at the back looks premium enough to impress. However, being glass, it’s a fingerprint magnet so you might need to get a case. One considerable feature is that the Nokia 7 has a certification of IP54 (splash and dust protection) which is a rare thing to see in a midranger. The 5.2-inch display has substantially large bezels. The contrast ratio is adequately appropriate with sharp details thanks to the FHD resolution and the colors are reasonably natural.

Nokia’s version of Android is pretty much clean and stock with nearly no proprietary mess. The Nokia 7 comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat and its stock/clean nature indicates that it will keep getting future updates. Underneath, a Snapdragon 630 runs the show which is good enough to provide for basic processing needs while the 4/6GB of RAM handles multitasking quite well. In normal usage, you will not notice any sluggishness or lag unless you decide to try out some resource intensive application like a demanding video game.

The 16MP camera does not perform as well as a flagship but does have good clarity due to the premium Carl Zeiss lenses. Basic daylight photography is good but expects a considerable amount of noise and artifacts, especially in low-light photography.

Update: Nokia 7 gets an Android P Beta update.
