A PTCL optic fiber cut, near Multan road, put Ufone services go offline in various parts of Lahore yesterday, told us sources who had direct information of the incident.
Sources confirmed ProPakistani that a fiber optic cut, due to unplanned digging of road, caused at least three dozen Ufone cell sites go offline.
This extended disruption in service impacted hundreds of thousands of Ufone customers in various parts of Lahore including Saddar, Canal View, Glushan -e-Ravi, Johar Town, Raiwind Road, Bund Road, Shah Di Khoee.
It is said that services were partially restored after 10 hours, however, degraded Ufone service was observed all day long.
It merits mentioning here that Ufone relies entirely on PTCL for its back-haul connectivity, without any contingency plan in case of optic fiber cut or service possible downtime of PTCL’s system.
With almost disfunctional regulator, there is no one to question operators about service quality or even the service availability.
Feedback from readers suggest that cellular service has degraded by large in last few months. However, complete service outages — other than the those ordered by Ministry of Interior — is a rare case.
These cuts in Lahore are because of Metro Bus project. Many telcos are also suffering in Lahore region. This is not Ufone, PTCL or PTA or anybody fault but LDA fault. But also Mass Transit is also important. I think just agencies of LDA and telco operators need to work better together. Maybe CM office sponsors of Metro Bus project can order this coordination to happen.
How can their services was unavailable. we don’t need what the reasons was? What is going on? is there any authority?
