There Will Be No Gas Loadshedding in Pakistan This Winter: ECC

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, on Tuesday, decided that no gas loadshedding will be carried out during this winter season.

The ECC discussed a report submitted by Petroleum Ministry on national gas load management during winter 2018-19.

After going through the report, the members of the forum decided not to carry out gas loadshedding in the ensuing winter season.

During the meeting, it was decided to add more Regasified Liquified Natural Gas (R-LNG) in the system to bridge the gap between demand and supply.

The ECC also gave approval to a GoP guarantee to the National Power Parks Management Company Limited (NPPMCL).

The meeting also approved a summary moved by the Power Division with regards to acquiring an Islamic financing facility for the power sector.

Meanwhile, the energy committee of the Cabinet will meet tomorrow to discuss a four-point agenda. Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan will chair the meeting.

The members of the meeting will be briefed about the production costs in the power sector. The forum will also be briefed about the generation capacity of the installed power plants in the country.

An explanation will also be given as to why costly power was generated through furnace oil, despite having the option of LNG plants which could generate cost-efficient electricity.

The cabinet committee on energy will also be briefed about the supply and demand situation of LNG in the country.
