Here’s Why Hasan Ali is Back to Being the Best Bowler in the World

After an ordinary series with the ball during Pakistan’s tour to South Africa, Hasan Ali is back to his wicket-taking form, giving us a major throwback to the Champions Trophy 2017.

Peshawar Zalmi has once again proved to be a strong force – one to be reckoned with – thanks to their fiery bowling unit. With the likes of Hasan Ali, Wahab Riaz, Umaid Asif, and Sameen Gul, Peshawar has a strong bowling line-up, which is the reason why they have already bowled out Lahore Qalandars for 78 and Multan Sultans for 145 and restricted Karachi Kings to 109/9.

Guess who is yet to feature in the bowling attack this season? The death over specialist, Chris Jordan!

Coming back to Hasan Ali, let’s have a look at his figures in the first 5 matches.

Opposition Overs Runs Wickets Economy Average
Quetta Gladiators 4 30 1 7.50 30
Lahore Qalandars 4 15 4 3.75 3.75
Karachi Kings 4 15 4 3.75 3.75
Islamabad United 4 29 2 7.25 14.5
Multan Sultans 4 17 4 4.25 4.25
Overall Figures 20 106 15 5.30 7.06

Talking about his plans, he attributed his performances to doing the basics right.

I’m sticking to my basics and bowling on good line which is helping me getting wickets here. It’s all about bowling according to plan and situation otherwise wickets in T20s usually support the batsmen.

Time to watch some action. Here are the highlights of his 4-wicket hauls.

Vs Lahore Qalandars

Vs Karachi Kings

Vs Multan Sultans

With 15 wickets already, the 24-year old can easily break the record for most wickets in a season considering he is still to play a minimum of 5 matches this season.

Talking about his confidence, he said in an interview with a private media outlet;

I have enjoyed every single wicket so far, every wicket is important. With World Cup just months away, it is very important for me to gain maximum confidence by performing well in this league.

His bowling performances have made sure his team sits pretty at the second spot on PSL 2019 points table with 3 victories, i.e. they have 6 points and a net run rate of 1.049, which is the best among all teams.

The spells were brutal and show why he is such a crucial part of the team. He needs to replicate these performances for Pakistan as well and with World Cup 2019 drawing near, the pacer needs to step up his game and prove himself yet again at the global stage.

It remains to be seen how many wickets he gets in the remainder of the matches and whether he finishes as the highest wicket-taker or not. The second-best, after 5 matches each, is Sohail Tanvir with 9 wickets.
