Xiaomi Launches Redmi 8 With 5,000 mAh Battery & Dual Cameras for $112

Redmi 8, the successor to the fan-favorite Redmi 7 has been launched two weeks after the launch of Redmi 8A in India. The smartphone was teased quite a few times by the company’s General Manager Lu Weibing and Redmi India’s head Manu Kumar Jain.

Redmi 8 was also listed on TENAA last week with all its specifications but was officially launched in India today and looks pretty much like the recently launched 8A with improved internals.

Design and Display

Xiaomi Redmi 8 comes with a glass body featuring the company’s new Aura design. At the back, the dual-sensor camera is vertically aligned in the center on top of the fingerprint reader. It will come in Sapphire Blue, Onyx Black, and Ruby Red colors.

At the front, the phone comes with a waterdrop notch IPS LCD display with HD+ (720p) resolution, ~81.7 percent screen to body ratio and a 19:9 aspect ratio.

Internal and Storage

Under the hood, the Redmi 8 is powered by Snapdragon 439 just like Redmi 8A but is paired with a higher 3 GB or 4GB RAM and 32 GB or 64 GB onboard storage.

On the software front, the smartphone will run on MIUI 9 skinned Android 9.0 Pie.

Cameras

At the back, Redmi 8 comes with a dual-sensor camera with a 12 MP Sony IMX 363 sensor sitting behind an f/1.8 lens joined by a 2 MP depth sensor. For selfies, the phone is equipped with an 8 MP single sensor shooter.

As far as the camera software is concerned, it has 33 profiles for AI scene detection including scenery, plants, pets and about 6 modes specifically designed for Indian users.

Battery and Pricing

The whole package is fueled by a massive 5000 mAh battery backed by 18W fast charging. However, it comes with a 10W adapter.

The smartphone will go on sale by 12 October at the following pricing:
