Sindh Education Minister Announces New Exam Schedule

Sindh Education and Literacy Department has rejected rumors on social media that students across the province will be promoted without exams.

In a clarification on Monday, the Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani said that the exams for the classes 1st to 8th will be taken from 1st to the 15th of June when the schools reopen.

“Exams for the classes 1st to 8th will be held from the 1st of June to the 15th of June. After the results, students will be promoted to the next courses,” said Ghani, adding that this is when the new academic year in the province will start.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, the minister said that all steps have been taken to contain the spread of coronavirus. The decision was made in the Steering Committee, convened ahead of the press conference.

The minister added that the exams of 9th and 10th grades will start from the 15th of June, continuing until the 30th of June. The result will be out by the 15th of August, he added.

Similarly, the intermediate exams will commence from the 6th of July and end by the end of the month. He added that all exams will be conducted in the afternoon to keep the students safe from the scorching sun.

Ghani explained that the new academic year for the first year and second year will start from the 1st of August, while the results for the second year will be announced on the 15th of September.

He further added that no school in the province will be allowed to collect fees in advance. He urged the parents to submit the fee on a monthly basis.

Ghani reflected on his conversation with the Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood in which he urged him to close all Cambridge schools in the province as well. He said the parents of O and A-level students should not be worried about their children.

“There is a high possibility that the schedule of the Cambridge exams will be changed as well. A final decision in this regard is yet to be made,” he added.

The Sindh government has extended the closure of schools and colleges till the 31st of May.
