While everyone is familiar with Javed Miandad’s brilliance during the 1992 World Cup Final against England, not everyone knows that the batsman struggled throughout the final due to an unusual disease.
Javed Miandad has now disclosed that he was afflicted with some sort of viral infection during the final game which caused him to sweat a lot and diminished his energy levels.

While speaking on the 18th anniversary of Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup triumph, the former captain said:
When I look back at the video clippings of that final, I still can’t understand how we ended up winning that World Cup. When we were batting, we were losing wickets early, my only aim was to just stand there and not lose my wicket.
Miandad further added:
I was in a lot of discomfort. I was down with a viral infection that affected my running. And if you remember correctly, I couldn’t even play my shots towards the end of the innings.
Javed Miandad said that he also consulted with the doctors before the final game but they were not able to diagnose the problem.
I even consulted doctors before the game but my condition towards the end of our innings in the final was such that I couldn’t play a shot, I was just standing there.

Despite struggling with an illness, Miandad played in the final game and posted 58 runs off 98 balls. Javed Miandad was the tournament’s 2nd highest scorer with 437 runs after New Zealand’s Martin Crowe who scored 456 runs.
