The attendees of the meeting were apprised about the differences in the sale and retail prices in different districts which highlighted the underperformance of the market committees.

It was decided that the responsibility of monitoring the market will be given to the district and tehsil administration until suitable committees comprising competent individuals are formed. It was also agreed upon that the government-certified price list for commodities will be strictly adhered to in all the districts and that violations will result in strict action against the concerned assistant commissioners.

The attendees also discussed strategies to ensure the stability of the prices of sugar in all the districts, for which it was suggested that cameras should be installed in the sugar mills to keep checks on the supply orders for all the provinces.

The market committees had initially been formed to lower the profiteering from and hoarding of essential items in the country. Despite regular checks by the government, the committees had fallen short of the expectations of them throughout 2020.
