596 housing societies built in the jurisdiction of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) are illegal.
It was revealed by LDA officials during a recent meeting of the National Coordination Committee for Housing Construction and Development with Punjab’s Law Minister in the chair.

During the meeting, Law Minister Punjab, Raja Basharat, said that previous governments did nothing to recover the state land and looted money from the illegal housing societies.
While directing concerned authorities to take strict legal action against the illegal housing societies in Lahore, the Law Minister has sought a detailed record of all illegal housing societies across the province in the next meeting.

The Minister added that Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to recover and reimburse the life savings of poor people.
Note that in December last year, it was reported that more than 69% of the housing societies across Pakistan are illegal.
