As wickets fell around him, Zaman alone kept Pakistan in the game, smashing South African bowlers all over the park before being run out in a controversial final over of the innings. Although he was unable to win the match for his team, he broke multiple records with his memorable innings.
Highest Individual Score in a Run Chase
Zaman broke the record of the highest individual score in a run chase. The previous best was held by the Australian all-rounder, Shane Watson, who scored 185 against Bangladesh in 2011.
This was also the second-highest individual score in a losing cause. Zimbabwe’s Charles Coventry’s 194* against Bangladesh in 2009 is still the highest individual score in a losing cause.
Highest Individual Score Against South Africa by A Pakistani
He also surpassed the highest individual score for a Pakistani against the Proteas. The previous best was scored by Saleem Elahi when he scored 135 in 2002.
This was also the second-highest individual score by any batsman against South Africa. Sachin Tendulkar’s 200 in 2010 is still the highest against the Proteas in ODIs.

Zaman’s 193 is the highest score against South Africa in South Africa by a visiting batsman. The record was previously held by the Australian left-handed opener, David Warner, who scored 173 in 2016.
This was also the longest ODI innings in South Africa by a visiting batsman. Zaman wrote his name in the record books by staying on the crease for 224 minutes.
Most Sixes Against South Africa
One of the impressive aspects of this knock was Zaman’s tremendous six-hitting ability. He smashed ten sixes in the innings as he became only the third batsman to hit ten or more maximums in an innings against South Africa.
The other two batsmen Abdul Razzaq and the Kiwi opener, Martin Guptill. Razzaq smashed ten sixes in his unbelievable 109* innings in 2010, and Guptil hit eleven sixes against the Proteas.
Although Pakistan was unable to chase down the target, this ODI will go down in the history books for one of the greatest ODI innings in the history of the game.
