Cricket’s popularity in the world has certainly been affected due to its absence from the Olympics. The only time cricket was played at the Olympics was back in 1900 in France.

Two of the most influential cricket boards, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), are working together to explore various avenues for getting cricket back at the Olympics.

The two cricket boards, along with the International Cricket Council (ICC), believe that getting cricket into Olympics is of the utmost importance and the key to spreading the popularity of the game.

This was a major topic of discussion during the recent ICC meeting, discussing the cricket calendar from the year 2023 onwards.

Although BCCI and ECB have opposed the idea of cricket in the Olympics previously, they seem to have a different view this time around. The authorities believe that the T10 format is cricket’s best chance of convincing the Olympics organizers to get the sport back into the mega event.

ECB has also floated the idea of using ‘The Hundred” format, while other stakeholders argued that the T20 should be the favored format.

Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, or 2032 Olympics, likely to be staged in Brisbane, have been set as realistic targets by the authorities.
