Pakistan’s bowling coach, Waqar Younis, has advised former pacer, Mohammad Amir, to prove his credentials by performing in domestic cricket if he wishes to make a comeback in the national team. Younis said that it will be difficult for Amir to come back in the international arena if his performances are not noticed by the national team selectors.

“There has been a lot of talks on Amir’s matter but if he doesn’t want to take his retirement back, if he doesn’t want to impress the selectors then it is hard talking about that,” Younis said.
The 49-year old former fast bowler said that Amir should realize this is the national team, not some franchise cricket team where he can play at his will.
“This is not my cricket, this is not Amir’s cricket. This is not franchise cricket, one has to remember that.” Younis added.
It is pertinent to mention that Amir announced his retirement from international cricket in December 2020 citing mental torture by the current national team management, including bowling coach Waqar Younis, as the reason behind his shocking announcement.

Amir, at the time, stated that he will not play for Pakistan again under the current management but his stance on the matter has since changed. Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) CEO, Wasim Khan, visited Amir to resolve the issue and address his concerns.
Younis claims that he had no prior idea of the meeting between the two individuals and he only got to know when it was revealed on the media. Younis said that it is a good step by Wasim and he has every right to meet anyone as the head of Pakistan cricket.
