According to sources, Pakistan’s star batsman, Babar Azam, is likely to be replaced as captain of the Test side. Sources revealed that the relationship between the incoming Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Ramiz Raja, and Babar Azam has not gotten off to a good start, and Ramiz has decided to remove him from Test captaincy.
Sources privy to the matter further revealed that wicket-keeper batsman, Mohammad Rizwan, is currently nominated as the replacement to Babar Azam and will be appointed as the new Test captain.
While the sources have claimed this news to be authentic, many other cricketing journalists have refuted it and claimed that there had been no discussions within the PCB regarding the replacement of Babar Azam as captain of the Test side.
Babar was appointed as Pakistan’s Test captain in November 2020 and has had a remarkable start to his captaincy in the longest format of the game. He has won five of his first six matches as captain of the Test side and has had one of the best starts to a captaincy reign in Pakistan’s cricketing history.
It was reported earlier that Babar had expressed his displeasure at Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad as the selection committee ignored many of his suggested choices. However, these reports have been refuted as CEO PCB, Wasim Khan, stated that Babar is fully behind the selected squad, and there have been no issues regarding the selection of the T20 World Cup squad.
