Pakistan has jumped to the third spot on the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League Points Table after their thumping victory over the Netherlands in the second ODI.
The Men in Green overtook Afghanistan in the third spot and have a chance to move to the second spot if they manage to register a comprehensive win in the third and last ODI. Pakistan currently trail second-placed Bangladesh by 10 points in the competition and are a further five points away from table-toppers England.
The Netherlands got off to the worst possible start after opting to bat first in the second ODI. After losing three wickets in quick succession, experienced batter, Tom Cooper, and talented young batter, Bas de Leede, rescued the team from a precarious position and rebuilt the innings with well-made half-centuries.
Pakistan struck back halfway through the innings and halted Netherlands’ solid batting display. Mohammad Nawaz and Haris Rauf picked three wickets each as the hosts were bundled out for 186.
The Green Shirts faltered early on as they lost openers cheaply. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan steadied the ship and scored scintillating half-centuries before Salman Ali Agha wrapped up the chase with a brisk half-century.
As a result of the win, Pakistan also gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series and will be looking to clean sweep the series. A win in the next match for Pakistan will also guarantee their qualification for the 2023 ODI World Cup, irrespective of their results in the upcoming series against New Zealand and Afghanistan.
