Fixed Tax of Up to Rs. 450 Per Month For Electricity Consumers On the Cards

The government team is gearing up to meet with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in a few days to discuss the possibility of lowering tariffs for industry by up to 11.75 cents per unit from 14 cents per unit without offering any subsidy.

If approved and executed, this would impose a flat tax of Rs. 50 to Rs. 450 per month on lifeline and protected consumers, reported Business Recorder.

The Power Division proposed:

  1. Add a small fixed cost for lifeline/protected users. The impact of this would range from Rs. 50 to Rs. 450 each month.
  2. Add a fixed fee to unprotected categories that utilize more than 100 units and reduce their variable rate, ensuring that their net monthly bill increase is less than Rs. 1,000/month.
  3. Apply a higher fixed charge of Rs. 3,000/month to single-phase consumers who use more than 700 units per month to encourage them to switch to three-phase meters.
  4. Decrease tariff for three-phase meters with loads of 5kW or above to decrease their cross-subsidy burden and encourage single-phase consumers with monthly usage of more than 700 units to move to three-phase connections.
  5. Discourage the current usage of multiple connections in one house;
  6. Achieve a 25 percent reduction in cross-subsidies to domestic consumers. This pricing structure will cut the subsidy to domestic consumers using less than 400 units by Rs. 161 billion.

The Power Division contends that the implementation of fixed charges and a reduction in variable tariffs would also encourage higher usage.

  • The management of gas and electric distribution companies failed to halt the menace of theft and other looses despite being paid 500 times more salaries comparing with the prevailing market rates. The same is recieved from the same from the end consumers in one way or the other way.The government needs to cover the looses and refrain to recieve from the consumers through different nefarious techniques.

  • Simple cut off all free units.this happen in our country where free electricity units is given.
    Second start underground cabling.
If TV ,neelum jehlum charges is taken from consumers then why not for under ground cabling.

  • In Pakistan when a person who is unemployed (specifically youth holding MASTER & 😭 BACHELOR DEGREES) but then too buy 1 liter petrol / Pays House Electricity Bill by borrowing loan from friends/relatives & pays rent of house even for 1 bedroom flat , pays conveyance petrol, vehicles, Drivers, Guards, Butler’s, charges for Auto / Railways / Pays Medical/Medicines payments & Gas Biils too.

Then why GOVT. OF PAKISTAN gives free to Generals, Judges, Parliamentarians, Bureaucrats, Public Office Holders, Teachers/Doctors & Others Employees of Federal, Provincials, Judiciary, Burecracy all have employments & getting salary from Rs.50,000 to Rs. 5,000,000 per month.

Then no need to do this 😭

  • Please stop making fool of public , isn’t it enough that we are paying 600 percent increased Sui Gas charges etc.

  • I don’t know where IMF funds are going each government is responsible for corruption and people have to pay

  • It is crucial to address the issue of electricity theft systematically. Implementing measures such as the suspension of individuals engaged in such activities, accompanied by a significant fine of 1 million for each offender, is paramount. Additionally, discontinuing the allocation of free units for government and political figures should be considered. To further enhance the power infrastructure, a comprehensive upgrade from the centuries-old overhead cables to a modern underground tunnel cable system is advisable. This strategic approach will contribute to the seamless functioning of the power grid, reducing reliance on external factors. 😡😡😡😡

  • All political, buerocrates judiciary enjoying free electricity gas fuel etc etc but not working of worthing single penny they should be charged until then nothing to be charged who are paying taxes.

  • One of the most corrupt institute (Sepco/wapda) who suffers the life of common man, I pray for these corrupt people that they face same problems which face by the ptcl staff now a days, Inshallah

  • Y don’t we use our atomic nuclear power to make electricity? Y we use petrol to make this? KE is like Sunday ki unda deney wali murgi for sindh govt, army and for Pakistan .Let us suffer who cares? China and Iran had offered 1.5o rs per unit many times but our govt don’t want else they will not get any golden egg.

  • Yar logon k pass Khana khanay k paisay ni wo itna bojh kaisay uthain gay…IMF say karzaa laina band karo r apny kharchay Kam karo r apny paon par kharay ho jaon….r ya sab apny Deen Islam par chal kar hi mumkin hey

  • I just want to ask this govt about the limits it is pushing the poor and us all. Do they want the Lava trp erupt and sweep them away. It is so pathetic that they want every penny from our pockets
