Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the appointment of Australia’s Tony Hemming as its new head curator. Hemming, a highly respected figure as a curator in the cricketing world, brings nearly four decades of experience to the role.
His extensive resume includes work at various iconic cricket grounds in Australia and a decade-long tenure as the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) head curator from 2007 to 2017.
Hemming’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Pakistan cricket, following a challenging T20 World Cup that will be followed by the Bangladesh Test series.
The inadequacies of the pitches were starkly highlighted during England’s tour of Pakistan, where the visitors scored a record-breaking 506 runs on the first day of the Rawalpindi test.
Additionally, the domestic Quaid-e-Azam Trophy has seen numerous drawn matches due to massive scores, further underscoring the need for better pitch conditions which provide a balance between the batters and bowlers.
PCB Chairman, Najam Sethi, expressed confidence in Hemming’s ability to elevate the quality of pitches in Pakistan, noting that his vast experience and proven track record make him the ideal candidate for the role.
Hemming’s appointment is expected to bring about significant improvements, ensuring that the pitches provide a more balanced contest between bat and ball.
Pakistan fans will be eager to see how the pitches are made for the Bangladesh series as Hemming’s expertise will enhance the standard, making the matches more competitive and exciting.
