Pakistan Coaches Advise Against Changing Captains Frequently

Pakistan’s white-ball and red-ball coaches, Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie have advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) against making swift changes to the team’s leadership. The coaches emphasize the importance of stability and caution against hasty decisions regarding the captaincy roles.

Speculation has been rife that Mohammad Rizwan might be appointed as the captain for all three formats, potentially replacing current white-ball skipper Babar Azam and red-ball (Test) captain Shan Masood. A source close to the PCB has dispelled rumors of imminent captaincy changes. The source emphasized that both Kirsten and Gillespie are advocating for giving the current captains a fair opportunity to demonstrate their leadership capabilities.

“There has been no discussion on changing the captains as the PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has left it up to the two Pakistan coaches and selectors to decide on the captaincy,” the source stated. “Kirsten and Gillespie are very clear that Shan and Babar both need to be given a proper run before judging their leadership abilities,” he added.

The topic of captaincy changes is not expected to be addressed at the upcoming “Connection Camp” workshop, scheduled for later this month in Lahore. The workshop is designed to gather insights from all stakeholders, particularly domestic team coaches, to ensure a seamless flow of players who can be considered for national team selection across all formats.

“The workshop is basically being held because both the coaches want the domestic team coaches to have a clear picture of what is required from them to ensure a flow of players who can be considered for selection for the national teams in all formats,” the source concluded.
