Pakistan’s premium fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi is set to lead the Lions in the upcoming Champions One-Day Cup at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium.
Afridi, who has previously captained Lahore Qalandars to two Pakistan Super League (PSL) titles, takes on this new leadership role with high expectations. He aims to inspire his team to succeed under the mentorship of former Pakistan skipper Waqar Younis.
Afridi expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament and emphasized the significance of this opportunity. “Leading the Lions in such a competitive event is an exciting challenge. We have a young, dynamic squad, and I’m eager to contribute with both bat and ball while guiding the team forward,” Afridi said.
At just 24 years old, Afridi reflects on his journey since his domestic One-Day Cup debut in Faisalabad in 2018, where he first made a name for himself as a teenage sensation.
Now, returning to the same venue as a seasoned international star, he feels a strong sense of responsibility to mentor the next generation of players.
Facing tough opposition, including the Stallions in their opening game, Afridi acknowledged the high level of competition.
He stressed the importance of solid preparation to ensure a strong start to the tournament, underlining his determination to make a lasting impact.
