Renowned Pakistani journalist and senior editor at ESPNcricinfo, Osman Samiuddin, recently shared a revealing story about Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi on his YouTube channel, Batta Fast, co-hosted by Ahmer Naqvi. The discussion highlighted concerns over Mohsin Naqvi’s leadership amidst the ongoing struggles of Pakistani cricket, both in terms of team performance and infrastructure development.
Mohsin Naqvi, appointed as the head of the PCB by the government, also serves as Pakistan’s interior minister. His lack of prior cricket knowledge or experience has drawn significant scrutiny, especially given the current state of Pakistani cricket. The national team has faced challenges on the field, while the cricketing infrastructure has been criticized for its inadequacies.
During the podcast, Osman Samiuddin recounted an interaction with an ICC director who inquired about Mohsin Naqvi’s role and effectiveness. Samiuddin described Naqvi as someone who “wants to be seen doing a lot but is not doing much,” reflecting a perception of inaction despite appearances.
A man whose only claim to fame and power is to put his boss on speakerphone – can’t really negotiate with anyone be it the ICC or Fazlu. Classic case of lambs abroad and lion at home. pic.twitter.com/9OrkBKGwsO

The ICC director shared an anecdote from the 2024 T20 World Cup final in Barbados, where India faced South Africa. Although Pakistan was eliminated in the group stages, cricket board heads from all participating nations were invited to attend the final. This event was an opportunity for networking and discussing future series plans, especially crucial for Pakistan as it prepares to host the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
However, according to the ICC director, Mohsin Naqvi’s presence was minimal. He reportedly met a few ICC officials, posed for photographs, and then vanished for the remainder of the two-day event. This absence from crucial networking opportunities raised concerns about his commitment to advancing Pakistan’s cricketing interests.

Awam keh paison ka tour hay , moujein hi moujein.
People are not angry at Mohsin Naqvi. But people are angry at Establishment. Almost everyone in Pakistan talks about it that his real qualification is his closeness with the top Military brass. This is a great example that why Pakistan dont need military intervention in civilian institutes. Their intervention and favoritism is destroying our institutes to the core.
