Karachi Kings captain David Warner missed the Pakistan Super League (PSL X) Captain’s Day, opting to prioritize team preparations ahead of their opening match against Multan Sultans on Saturday at National Bank Stadium. The event, featuring captain photoshoots with the PSL trophy and a pre-tournament press conference, saw Warner’s absence noted. In his place, vice-captain Hasan Ali was present.
He apologized, explaining,
My priority was the intra-squad game and coming from home, I wanted to take a look at the players playing in our team. For me, it was about getting the guys up and ready for tomorrow’s game. I apologize for not being there.
David Warner, addressing the media separately, expressed confidence in Karachi Kings’ prospects for the tenth edition of PSL. “Our immediate focus is to win the opening game. The team is shaping up well, and we’ve had productive training sessions despite the warm weather,” he said. Highlighting the squad’s depth, Warner emphasized a step-by-step approach, starting with a victory against Multan Sultans. He noted the grassy wicket at National Stadium resembled Australian pitches, adding, “The surface here gives us something familiar to work with.”
The former Australian star reiterated his focus on team readiness, explaining his absence from the press conference: “I preferred spending that time working with the boys on the ground.” Warner stressed a positive yet competitive mindset, aiming for an enjoyable dressing room atmosphere.
“The vibe within the group is fantastic. We want to enjoy the tournament while staying focused on our goals,” he said. He also hinted at flexible team selections, stating, “We’ll continue to adjust our playing XI based on match conditions and pitch behavior.” As PSL X unfolds, Warner’s leadership will be pivotal for Karachi Kings’ campaign.
