Saudi Arabia has announced new guidelines for foreign drivers using international or foreign driving licenses.
The General Directorate of Traffic has clarified that visitors can drive in the Kingdom with their international or foreign license for up to one year from their arrival date, or until the license expires—whichever comes first.
A key requirement is that the license must match the type of vehicle being driven. Additionally, all foreign licenses must be translated by an approved translator to ensure the information is clear and accurate.
These regulations do not apply to citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. GCC nationals are allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia with a valid licence from their home country for the entire period of its validity, without needing a temporary Saudi licence.
However, the Traffic Department also noted that international driving permits issued by GCC countries are not valid for driving between GCC states, including Saudi Arabia.
