CDA Announces Two New Routes for Islamabad’s Electric Buses

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced that two new electric bus routes will be introduced soon in Islamabad.

According to officials, the new routes will run from G-9 Karachi Company to Faizabad and from Nilor to Khannapul, expanding the existing network of 20 routes already served by electric buses.

Currently, around 120 buses operate daily, carrying nearly 60,000 passengers. Once depot upgrades are completed and all 170 buses are deployed, the daily ridership is expected to cross 100,000.

While the response to the service has been positive, passengers have raised concerns about tracking buses. Unlike international practice, the CDA mobile app currently does not provide estimated arrival times.

Officials said a request has been made to Google to integrate bus timings into the app, which will soon allow citizens to track buses in real time.

CDA has also been advised to provide printed booklets at airports, railway stations, bus stops, and shopping malls, along with installing information boards at bus stops to help passengers navigate routes more easily.
