The federal government has announced plans to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) into classrooms across Pakistan, beginning with grade 8 students. Under this initiative, AI will be used to teach the national curriculum in federal government-run schools.
A pilot project has been approved to test the model in two schools, one urban and one rural, to evaluate its effectiveness in different learning environments. If successful, the program is expected to expand gradually, with the potential to reach up to 100,000 students nationwide.
The project is being launched through a formal agreement between the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and Mind Hive, a technology firm specializing in digital learning solutions. To ensure quality and accountability, the Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE) will carry out a comprehensive review of the pilot phase, assessing both the learning outcomes and the adaptability of the program.
Education experts highlight that AI has the potential to transform the learning process by making it more personalized and engaging. Through AI-driven tools, lessons can be adapted to match the pace and understanding of each student, helping weaker learners catch up while enabling advanced learners to move ahead.
In addition to enhancing the learning experience, early exposure to AI and related digital tools will prepare students for a future where technology and digital literacy are increasingly vital. This aligns with Pakistan’s broader goal of equipping the younger generation with the skills needed to thrive in a knowledge-based economy.

Save human jobs. Can’t they see disaster coming?
It’s good thing to use Ai in govt schools. But it can be beneficial if the teacher uses it with children of higher grade can learn. It has has been observed that student of grade 3,4 & 5 parents are sent youtube and other channel content. Any additional excercise or practice coming thru education ministry/platform is passed on to parents. The teacher only teaches what is in the textbooks.
The govt knowns that getting smart phone, having Internet connections or mobile data cost money. The students of GOVT schools parents are not educated themselves or resources to comply with such demands. Teaching is teachers responsibility.
