In a major development for cricket fans across the country, the Interior Ministry has taken note of the recurring traffic chaos witnessed during matches in the federal capital and decided to accelerate plans to construct Islamabad’s own cricket stadium.
According to details, the government is moving forward with its plan to build a state-of-the-art facility in Islamabad’s D-12 sector and has tasked the Capital Development Authority (CDA) with completing the project within one year.
The Islamabad Cricket Stadium will reportedly be modeled after world-class facilities in Dubai, turning the capital into a hub for international cricket and easing the strain on existing venues.
Officials privy to the development revealed that shifting the stadium away from the city center will significantly reduce traffic congestion during high-profile matches, particularly those requiring heightened security for players.
The project will also include the construction of a luxury hotel near the venue, ensuring international teams have top-tier accommodation adjacent to the ground and eliminating the need for longer travel. The stadium complex will feature advanced security systems, modern transportation access, and cutting-edge parking facilities, bringing Islamabad closer to global standards followed by premier sports complexes in the UAE.
The decision marks a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan’s cricket infrastructure, as Islamabad prepares to host major international teams and events with greater ease and capacity in the coming years.
A cricket stadium in Islamabad has been on the PCB’s agenda for years, but under Mohsin Naqvi that long-standing plan is about to become a reality.

Much awaited.
Best wishes and prayers
Well done, but it need other facilities ie a market, food street, gyms, jogging tracks, parks beside hotels
Make a rest house for the players too near the cricket grounds to spare those living in Islamabad all the anxiety of blocked roads, umpteen detours and hours of indeterminate go-slow
D-12 is still in the city. It should be located somewhere near Thallian interchange or near Fateh Jang close to new international airport.
NATIONAL STADIUM KARACHI AND NIAZ STADIUM HYDERABAD NEEDS ATTENTION.
KARACHI IS THE LARGEST CITY OF PAKISTAN AND STADIUM HAS CAPACITY OF ONLY 30,000.
MOREVER STANDS IN THE STADIUM NEEDS TO BE BUILT HIGHER FROM THE GROUND.
karachi has little to no crowd even during international games while stadiums in punjab are always housefull so if there is no crowd then the stadiums get less attention۔
Great news, we will get rid the long lasting issue of traffic congestion. Shukur Alhamdulillah
