Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman has been fined 10% of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Tri-Series final against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi.
The charge was related to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision, an offense covered under Article 2.8 of the ICC regulations.
The incident took place in the 19th over of Pakistan’s innings when Zaman argued at length with the on-field umpires after being given out.
He accepted the decision of the match referee, Reon King, and admitted the offense, which led to one demerit point being added to his record. This is his first demerit point in the last 24 months.
Umpires Ahsan Raza and Asif Yaqoob, along with Rashid Riaz and Faisal Afridi, lodged the charge following the exchange. Under ICC rules, Level 1 breaches can result in an official warning or a fine of up to 50% of the match fee.
Despite the Fakhar Zaman incident, Pakistan sealed the series by defeating Sri Lanka by six wickets.
Sri Lanka were bowled out for 114 in 19.1 overs, with Kamil Mishara scoring 59 off 47 balls. For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz claimed three wickets each, while Abrar Ahmed picked up two.
Pakistan chased the target in 18.4 overs. Captain Babar Azam remained unbeaten on 37, while openers Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan added 36 and 23 runs respectively to secure a comfortable win for the hosts.
