Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to complete development projects in seven cities by April.
She issued the instructions while presiding over a high-level meeting to review progress on the Punjab Development Program, Lahore Development Program, Model Villages, Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Clean Drinking Water, and rural roads projects.
The meeting decided to accelerate development work across Punjab’s urban and rural areas, lay sewerage lines in green belts instead of roads, and construct manholes along road edges to minimize public inconvenience.
The chief minister also sought a viable plan for establishing PHAs in relevant cities. Apologizing to citizens for the disruption caused by road excavation, she announced the creation of a live dashboard and said she would personally monitor project progress.
Maryam Nawaz ordered the immediate release of the second installment of the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar housing scheme, and directed authorities to install water filtration plants on a priority basis in areas with contaminated water.
She said residents of DG Khan, Khushab, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur would receive bottled water at their doorsteps.
In a separate meeting on clean energy, the chief minister approved six biogas plants and decided to launch a waste-to-energy project in Lahore, which will provide low-cost electricity to electric and metro buses. She said Punjab has taken the lead in the clean energy sector.
