A meeting chaired by Syed Hassan Naqvi in Karachi has decided to remove garbage dumps located along major city roads as part of efforts to improve urban cleanliness and public convenience.
Officials of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board briefed the meeting on ongoing sanitation operations across the city.
Deputy commissioners were directed to coordinate closely with sanitation authorities and strengthen monitoring to ensure visible improvements in cleanliness.
Authorities agreed to enforce strict work schedules for sweeping operations and hold officers accountable for complaints regarding poor sanitation in their areas.
The meeting also took notice of reports involving underage workers in cleaning operations and directed officials to strictly enforce employment age and minimum wage laws.
Officials informed the meeting that out of nearly 3,000 garbage collection points in the city, around 2,500 have already been removed, while plans are underway to relocate the remaining 500 away from major roads.
To replace roadside dumps, recycling sites will be established in each district to process waste more efficiently.
The board also briefed participants on improvements in sweeping performance, garbage transfer stations, and recycling units at landfill sites.
The initiative aims to create cleaner roads, improve waste management, and provide long-term sanitation solutions for residents.

It is good to read that “at last” the authorities have taken notice of the garbage dumps + plastic bags with waste lying at every street corner. I travel around 45 kilometres to my place of work and see “kuchra” thrown everywhere. As civilised citizens we should also take the trouble of telling the garbage collecting man not to collect and throw at one convenient point.
These global leaders get visions and dreams then they act haphazardly making it more worse and ugly.
God save Pakistan from these God forsaken shameless creatures scumbags of planet earth Pakistan. Shame.
All these while these very people were snoring under piles of Dollars.
What rubbish…..a totally incompetent administration whether it’s the city or the Provincial. Every few years they wake up for a few days and then go back to sleep.
