Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has declared four brands of mineral water unsafe for consumption in its quarterly report for April-June, 2019.
In its report, 77 bottled/mineral water brands were tested with four brands declared chemically unsafe for drinking. Two of these brands, i.e., Super Natural and Taj Pure Drinking Water, contain too much sodium. Whereas, the other two brands, Classic Plus, and KLINZ, have a lower pH than the standard limit.

The report states that an excessive amount of sodium can result in hypertension while low pH can cause acidity. PCRWR tested bottled water from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Tando Jam, Multan, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Sialkot, and Peshawar.
The council says that the federal cabinet had ordered the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2004 to regularly survey bottled/mineral water and share the results on a quarterly basis while taking legal/punitive action against violators.
The ministry designated the task of quality monitoring of bottled/mineral water to PCRWR in 2005.
